They tell you a practice is visible, publishes well and has satisfied editors; they do not tell you whether it has built on a dune, restored a brownstone, or delivered a house at your number. Build your own shortlist from three things: completed houses you would happily live in, the names of the builders who built them, and clients willing to speak to you.
